Having only seen the Final Cut, and based on what others have said, this might be the most thorough and rewarding version available. I can’t honestly claim to be blown away by the movie; there were moments when I felt it dragged. However, the film's imaginative elements, desolate settings, and pervasive sense of despair are remarkably well-executed. It seems likely that it wasn’t a major hit in theaters around ’82 or ’83 largely due to competition from films like *E.T.*, *Raiders of the Lost Ark*, *Return of the Jedi*, and numerous other adventure and science fiction movies which overshadowed it. It's also possible audiences found it too slow for those accustomed to *Star Wars*, or simply not captivating enough if viewed as a murder mystery—I seem to remember reading that an earlier version included Ford delivering narration in a style reminiscent of Marlow’s. Despite all this, it remains a striking film, featuring some enjoyable special effects and a solid performance from Ford. For me, though, the highlight was Roy's "Time to Die" speech at the very end; he would have easily deserved an Academy Award for that!
