A more fitting name for "Back in Action" might be "Out of Action." Seth Gordon’s attempt to blend action, comedy, and heartfelt moments falls short, resulting in a movie that is easily overlooked and feels very predictable. Cameron Diaz's comeback doesn't quite work out, as the film does not do justice to her abilities or those of the other actors involved. It has difficulty justifying its length and ultimately leaves audiences with the impression they’ve seen something bland and lacking any unique qualities; the stunt performers are really the only ones who receive recognition. As a beginning for what we'll see in movies this year, I truly hope this isn't an indication of things to come. Rating: D-
