It's remarkably foolish, and still managed to appeal to me in some ways. *Arthur’s Whisky* is clearly made on a very small budget; the depiction of Las Vegas, for example, is unintentionally funny (!!). The story is quite absurd and, naturally, doesn’t make much sense, but I ended up enjoying it, truthfully. It does lose momentum around the sixty-minute mark, although the sincere ending helped to regain my interest. I anticipated a certain feel—a leisurely narrative about older people experiencing old age—based on the movie poster, and I was largely accurate in that assessment. However, the initial scenes suggested an action or fantasy film might be unfolding – which it definitely wasn’t, so it's quite a strange start! Diane Keaton, Patricia Hodge, and Lulu are featured onscreen, and the three actresses perform adequately; they functioned better as a group than individually. The actors portraying their younger counterparts also contributed positively—Genevieve Gaunt, Esme Lonsdale, and Hannah Howland were all good. Adil Ray’s separate storyline involving Lulu and Howland, however, was very awkward. It seems this film hasn't been widely praised; although a closer examination indicates a more balanced range of opinions, it does resonate with some viewers. Consider that expired tomato website—the critics/audience scores are 80%/14%! That’s quite something.
