A tedious, unremarkable horror action film that follows a predictable formula. This sequel lacks any fresh ideas. The initial installment benefited from a strong central theme: parents striving to protect their children within a nonsensical science-fiction setting that was still enjoyable because the rest of the movie was well-made. It presented an original and engaging concept which emphasized familial bonds. Now, it seems hastily assembled. Numerous dull side stories involve the surviving family members and another character being placed in situations where they must remain silent or battle the identical creatures from the previous film—the same encounters, just with louder sound effects. Furthermore, there's a villainous human group depicted as unattractive and unkempt (and entirely white), contrasted by a diverse benevolent community assisting the main characters. However, it all lacks any depth. Genuine connections are absent, character growth is limited to tired tropes like "I’ve lost everything; I won't assist you," followed quickly by "My mind has changed; I will help." This film isn’t worth more than having it playing as background noise while you surf the web. It doesn’t attempt to be anything beyond that.
