This is a respectable first effort at feature length from Adam Wingard, working within the mumble-gore style. It’s clear he was developing his skills, and subsequent projects show improvement, but even so, it remains a worthwhile piece of work. It really should have carried a title like "A Horrible Waste of Time." The effort to weave together different periods felt muddled and unclear, and it dragged on so slowly that I struggled to remain alert. The eventual plot development was underwhelming, arriving too late to justify the wait.
