The youngest werewolf in the group, named Freddy, leads an unusual existence. During daylight hours, he appears as an ordinary person, but under moonlight, transforms into a fearsome lycan – or so he should. However, during his first official ceremony, something goes wrong; instead of becoming a powerful creature, he changes into a poodle with a neat haircut. Feeling humiliated and inadequate, Freddy’s disappointment is compounded when his father, the pack leader, vanishes after an assignment, making it seem unlikely that Freddy will ever take over as top werewolf. Despite this, he believes he can resolve the situation, suspecting that a missing moonstone is responsible for his transformation and deciding to find both the stone and his father to set things right. The story that follows is fairly straightforward, but the characters are appealing and there's a good amount of action throughout. In keeping with an Australian style, it directly challenges stereotypes and prejudices, providing a vibrant and energetic animated experience. While perhaps running on for about twenty minutes too long, the film has a satisfying conclusion and demonstrates that creativity and humor can still shine through, even when the animation isn’t visually flawless (I felt the character designs were somewhat sharp-edged). It has moments of danger, playful antics, and is generally enjoyable. I would recommend checking it out.
