Synopsis

In Los Angeles, while visiting with his daughter and an aide, the California governor was the target of an attack, narrowly escaping with his life. He was conveyed to the de la Vega residence for recuperation, but remained too frail to travel for several days. Capitan Arrellanos, the governor's aide, confided in Diego, suggesting the assault stemmed from the Rebatos, a faction seeking independence from the Spanish crown.
