Synopsis

Don Alejandro persuaded each of the landowners to sign a document affirming their allegiance to the government. He had grown increasingly concerned by the burgeoning signs of potential civil unrest. He left a copy at the hacienda and took the original to the capitol, intending to present it to the governor. He had scarcely departed when Diego received unwelcome news: a new administrator had arrived in the pueblo and declared his intention to use the de la Vega hacienda as his headquarters.
