The series, a sensible continuation of the BBC’s "Yes, Minister," is just as enjoyable. The initially naive but now considerably more astute “Jim Hacker” (played by Paul Eddington), with assistance from his civil servant advisor “Sir Humphrey” (Nigel Hawthorne) and his patient assistant 'Bernard" (Andrew Fowlds), has found himself in the position of Prime Minister. The issues he confronts have grown beyond those of the previous installments, encompassing areas like arts financing and national security; a bishop needs appointing, a small island must be protected from a communist threat, and crucially, relationships with "The Palace" need safeguarding. Each installment usually features a guest star to emphasize the subject matter and intensify his often-hesitant reactions to what’s required. “The Key” stands out as a personal favorite because it pushes "Sir Humphrey" outside of his usual routines. It remains an excellent commentary on how things operate at the highest levels of British politics, frequently eliciting genuine laughter. The situations could likely apply to many governments around the world (though perhaps not in Paris!).
