The strong sense of nostalgia present in this animated series is genuinely impressive; the team behind it really managed to recreate what made the original 90s characters so appealing. I do have one significant concern about the voice acting though, as certain performers simply aren't a good fit. Characters like Rogue and Wolverine are hard to hear at times. Thankfully, most of the other voice performances were quite good, which helped me enjoy the show overall. Having finished watching everything and thought more about my first impression, I’ve lowered my rating from 4 1/2 stars down to 3 1/2. The series does a lot right regarding bringing back familiar characters and developing new ideas, but some elements hold it back. A particular storyline that bothered me was the introduction of Cable as the child of Scott and Jean—something I never liked in the comics. His characterization felt off too; he came across as sassy and spoiled, which wasn’t what I expected. I'm all for seeing diverse stories told, but at times it seemed a bit heavy-handed here. The frequent focus on representation, like Morph’s non-binary identity, felt excessive, especially considering the show is geared towards kids. While I believe diversity is important, it should be woven into the story naturally rather than being so prominent. Even with my criticisms, I still think this series is worth checking out. X-Men has always been a franchise I’ve enjoyed, and there's plenty to appreciate here. It isn’t flawless, but fans of X-Men will probably find something to like.
