With New Day on the verge of disbanding, Mr. McMahon offered Kofi Kingston one final opportunity to contend for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. However, the decision of his fate rested not with him. The Chairman declared that should Kofi’s New Day partners succeed in a Tag Team Gauntlet Match, then the Dreadlocked Dynamo would earn his championship match on the biggest stage of the year.
