As Batista and Edge finalized the contract securing his place in the World Heavyweight Championship match at Night of Champions, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero inserted a condition. The stipulation demanded that The Animal first earn his opportunity by defeating The Great Khali in the main event. Meanwhile, MVP was scheduled for a singles contest against CM Punk, among other matches.
