It’s refreshing to see a Netflix series that doesn't focus solely on LGBTQIA+, racial, or gender equality themes. The show is visually impressive, with careful attention paid to how the images work together with the sound and music to create a full narrative experience. However, it lacks originality and feels derivative of other works. There were moments when it seemed to be trying to emulate "They Shall Not Grow Old," but it doesn’t offer anything truly distinct or previously unseen material. The filmmakers didn't seem interested in forging their own path, and like many other World War II documentaries, they omitted the crucial detail of the Soviet Union's role as an aggressor against Poland in September 1939—a nation responsible for a significant number of deaths and whose actions would have prevented Germany’s subsequent war. The current political climate, with Putin attempting to revive the USSR in Eastern Europe, presented an ideal opportunity to address this history. Despite being among Netflix's better offerings recently, it doesn’t rise far above mediocrity when compared to similar productions worldwide.
