With You and the Rain _(Ame to Kimi to)_ is undeniably **slow**. It seemed intended to create that feeling—like a quiet rainy afternoon spent inside, enjoying hot tea and a good book. And it was about as exciting. The series centers on Fuji, a novelist who’s single – her family name isn't provided – and an unusual animal whose species is unclear; it could be a cat, dog, or raccoon. This little "ca-do-coon" is found in a box out in the rain when Fuji comes along, and asks her through a notebook if she will take him home. Fuji doesn’t appear to have much emotional depth or intelligence, and brings the animal home despite his strange ability to communicate by writing things down. I would like to say more happens, but that's essentially what there is. The show offers no clear explanations about where the animal originated, what kind of creature it might be, nor does anyone investigate. There’s not much development for Fuji beyond her seeming to function as if she were autistic; she rarely displays anger, sadness, anxiety, or any strong emotion. There's no explanation given for her fondness of rain. She does laugh, but that occurs only in the final episode when she and the animal—nicknamed "You" or “Floof”—are playing outside in the rain. The show never did bother to give the animal a proper name, and those names were assigned by characters other than Fuji. I got the name "You" from the closed captions. There isn't much happening with this series. It lacks humor, doesn’t generate any particular interest for the main character, has no romantic elements, interaction, or discussion. The pet’s only apparent ability is writing, and that plot point goes nowhere either. Overall, it feels like a low-budget imitation of _The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today_.
