I’d hoped to enjoy seeing Warrior return for a third run, but unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. My belief was that the show had concluded with season two. The second season provided a satisfying resolution to the conflict between competing Tongs during San Francisco’s early years. This new season begins without any clear reason or focus and it’s obvious. The rivalry among the Tongs is brought back up, creating an unpleasant sense of having seen this all before. A few new characters are introduced, along with some additional storylines in a bid to make things more interesting. However, these additions don't really add anything worthwhile to a story that was already complete. Making matters worse, there’s a push to highlight what they call “the message.” Discussions of different lifestyles, diversity and feminism take center stage. This feels like an awkward attempt to update the narrative, especially given the setting over a century in the past, filled with brutal martial arts action. Ultimately, if you're going to bring back a series, it’s essential to offer something new and significant. Warrior season three seems to be trying to benefit from its earlier popularity without grasping what made the show successful in the first place.
