Synopsis

He returned to Paris, intending to seek refuge with Gibassier, Vidocq's former associate and blackmailer. Upon arrival, however, he found Gibassier dead and Vidocq under arrest for his murder. Escaping custody, Vidocq made several clandestine returns to Monsieur Henry, the chief of the Paris police, requesting permission to investigate the crime himself. Concealed as Gibassier, he waited for the murderer's return, poised to expose them and bring the case to a close.
