_The Twilight Zone_ and _Unsolved Mysteries_ were two shows from the late eighties that both captivated and frightened me. Even now, watching older episodes of _Unsolved Mysteries_ on Amazon Video still leaves me with a strange, unsettling feeling. Perhaps it’s Robert Stack's presence, or maybe the music, or possibly just the fact that many of these cases remain unsolved, but they continue to fascinate me. So I was happy to discover that Netflix has brought the series back. There are six episodes, and they cover familiar subjects like mysterious deaths, missing people, and paranormal events. However, this version is noticeably different from the one we had in the eighties. The biggest changes are the absence of a host and the fact that each episode focuses on just one case. This makes it feel more like a collection of separate 45-minute documentaries linked only by their unsolved nature. I really prefer the original format, where Robert Stack introduced each story and there were four or five stories—or even more. I appreciated that these weren’t simply “someone disappeared and we don't know what happened” narratives. The first episode about Rey Rivera’s death is baffling; it’s a real puzzle, and I thought it was the strongest in the series. No matter which explanation you consider, you run into dead ends. I also enjoyed the UFO episode because it involved not just one person experiencing something unusual, but many people over a large area. Also, there's an entire episode in French about a family in France—it’s quite interesting, but did seem a little odd within what has generally been an America-focused show. As of now, only six episodes have been released, and they are being called Volume 1. While it is quite different from previous versions of the program, I enjoyed it and am eager to see what appears in Volume 2.
