Synopsis

The year is 1958 in Boyle Heights. Twelve-year-old Maura’s burgeoning femininity creates friction between her mother, Rose, and her grandparents, Haim and Yetta. Simultaneously, across town, twelve-year-old Shelly abandons the school play and ceases eating, offering no explanation for her sudden withdrawal. Years later, in 1966, twenty-one-year-olds Mort and Shelly secretly maintain a clandestine relationship.
