To be upfront, I don’t have access to Apple TV, so I watched the initial installment of the Time Bandits series at a friend’s house, and we attempted to watch it together. It turned out to be quite disappointing. The most noticeable thing is how dissimilar this show is from the original movie; it seems to imitate it in an awkward way. The humor that was so plentiful in the film has been removed, replaced by commentary—sometimes clever, sometimes dark—about what it means to be human. These elements, which are essential to the essence of Time Bandits, are mostly missing from this new version. Ultimately, it’s a superficial and largely unfunny production that doesn't offer anything particularly engaging or thought-provoking. While the series boasts high production values and features some recognizable performers, as I've mentioned in other reviews of movies and television shows that didn't quite live up to expectations, that isn’t sufficient on its own. Eventually, my friend and I gave up and decided to watch the original film again. I would recommend you do the same.
