Synopsis

Roper arranged a meeting between Jack and his niece, a woman of considerable freedom. Jack soon discovered the arrangement was not born of mere chance; Roper intended the encounter as a means of correcting Jack's inclinations. Should Jack fail to embrace a more conventional path, he would be disowned.
