It’s surprising that I seem to be the only one tackling an X-Files review. I still don't quite grasp what made “Piper Maru” so special; it was enjoyable, certainly, but the level of acclaim feels excessive. To put it plainly, the standalone cases consistently surpassed the overarching story arcs. Although, that’s not to say all the mythology episodes were lacking—some were genuinely excellent, while others, like "Piper Maru," landed somewhere in the middle. It's hard to deny that this show was a landmark for television and inspired countless creators striving for excellence. It demonstrated the potential of a one-hour program, and we should be thankful it existed, not just because of its superb acting, writing, and ability to engage viewers, but also because it opened doors for others aiming for similar heights. Television improved thanks to The X-Files, and movies did too… then things took a turn with politics, and now everything feels diminished, but for a time, The X-Files set a new standard for all forms of entertainment.
