I really wanted to watch 'The World at War,' even knowing it was long and old, but I didn’t anticipate how relevant and impactful it would feel. It's true that some aspects of the narrative remain incomplete, though we’ve gained more understanding over time; still, it’s difficult to picture another documentary series managing to portray the complete and intense nature of World War II so effectively. The impact 'The World at War' had on documentary filmmaking is clear from the very first episode, and you can see its influence even in projects by Ken Burns. This series rightfully holds its place as a significant achievement, and it’s wonderful that it has been preserved in high definition.
