Across the nation, Americans journeyed westward by numerous routes—drawn into the mountains by the fur trade, battling for independence in Texas, pursuing religious sanctuary in Utah, or simply seeking opportunity along the Oregon Trail. Yet regardless of their chosen path, each step brought them nearer to a future shaped by “Manifest Destiny,” a belief that would ultimately claim the West as their own.
