Synopsis

From June to August of 1944, the Allied forces launched the largest invasion in history on June 6th, D-Day, with 1.5 million soldiers participating. Yet, their advance stalled for weeks amidst the dense hedgerows of Normandy. The battle of Saipan became the most costly engagement in the Pacific thus far, while in the United States, grim telegrams from the War Department arrived with alarming frequency.
