Synopsis

From November 1943 to June 1944, the United States reeled from the devastating losses suffered at Tarawa, a Pacific atoll. Meanwhile, in Italy, Allied progress at Monte Cassino ground to a standstill, and an ambitious landing at Anzio ended in complete failure. Back home, the rapid growth of overcrowded war towns fueled economic shifts that ignited conflict and ugly racial violence.
