Synopsis

Harley Foster and his son, Jodie, first appear in the narrative. Harley drifts through the countryside, taking on various odd jobs. Jodie, having received no formal schooling, is largely unversed in the ways of the world. Verdie Grant develops a keen admiration for Harley, and eventually convinces him to settle on Walton's Mountain.
