Initially, this isn’t _The Vampire Lestat_; instead, they appear to be adapting _The Queen of the Damned_, which is the third book in the series rather than the second. The disappointing alterations prioritizing diversity and political messaging that damaged _Interview With the Vampire_ are still present and obvious here. Louis remains a Black character, not an aristocratic slave owner, and the timeline has been shifted forward by several centuries, diminishing some of the background information about the characters... ...and this installment suffers even more changes that undermine the narrative structure of The Vampire Chronicles because it’s evident they're struggling to compensate for the alterations made to _Interview_. These modifications were truly superfluous; The Vampire Chronicles already incorporated progressive themes and were quite LGBT-friendly, so there was no need to alter things to deliver a socially conscious message. It felt like an attempt to **SCREAM THE MESSAGE IN YOUR FACE AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE** instead of presenting it with the nuance and elegance that Anne Rice employed. Now they seem desperate to salvage _The Vampire Lestat_ since they essentially ruined the story when they adapted _Interview_, and unfortunately, this is apparent; the narrative suffers greatly as it drifts further from the original books. Regardless, my wife enjoys it, though she hasn't read the novels.
