Synopsis

Chicago, October 11, 1932. With less than a month remaining until the elections, David Mantley, candidate for State's Attorney on the Reform ticket, is delivering speeches. He alleges that the force behind his opponent, Jeremiah Down, is the notorious mobster Bryan O'Malley. Meanwhile, across the city, O'Malley is being celebrated at a testimonial dinner, oblivious to the trial awaiting him in a week – a trial for murder and income tax evasion.
