Azize’s choice exacted a steep price. Having made a profound sacrifice for her siblings' safety, she now bore the brunt of her mother Bala’s and her siblings’ resentment. Bala saw Azize as the source of her own suffering, and the family teetered on the precipice of irreparable fracture.
