Synopsis

Homer resolved to seek advancement at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant and presented Mr. Burns with a series of proposals, each met with swift dismissal. Late one night, however, Homer overheard Burns confessing to a secret: the true owner of the plant was a canary, a safeguard against liability for any misdeeds committed within its walls. Homer freed the bird and informed Burns that nuclear inspectors were imminent. Desperate to deflect blame, Burns hastily appointed Homer as the new owner.
