The Rig places characters within a harsh setting and then reimagines it as an overly progressive space, populated with individuals who seem completely miscast and more suited to a coffee shop than such a demanding locale. Adding to the feeling of pointless sluggishness, the narrative itself lacks originality, moves at a deliberate pace, and offers nothing fresh or unexpected. It seems like maybe it’s time to stop forcing agendas and acknowledge realities as they exist, instead of trying to distort them. Oil rigs are predominantly male environments, just as midwifery is primarily a female profession. However, even if the series had taken a more sensible approach, that wouldn't alter the fact that its ideas aren’t new. It’s disappointing, especially considering the presence of some capable performers. Ultimately, this feels like an unrealistic fantasy with a familiar story—one that has been presented before and, in my view, executed better.
