Men appear as underdeveloped figures within this series that follows an expected progressive agenda. They are portrayed as immature characters, at least from the perspective of the central figure and her mother. The narrative emphasizes female empowerment; men consistently occupy subordinate positions, fulfilling instructions and engaging in conflicts on behalf of women who are depicted as more intelligent. It's not surprising that the American entertainment sector is keenly interested in this trend if they believe unfairly diminishing half of humanity will go unobserved. Despite these issues, the core storyline proves compelling once you disregard the overt progressive messaging, and the action sequences move along at a good pace and are executed competently. The visual effects are also impressive and creative. It’s disappointing that we haven't seen a shift back to entertainment where individuals take on diverse roles, and this constant focus on gender politics is consigned to the past, which is where it should be.
