The Patient brought Stephen King’s *Misery* to mind for me. This time, though, the “biggest fan” is a patient with violent tendencies who also happens to be seeing a well-known psychotherapist. A restrained, intellectual man finds himself pulled into his patient's disturbed reality. It's a carefully crafted thriller, exceptionally acted and paced deliberately. It’s noteworthy that the showrunners chose short episodes; maybe they were worried the story’s narrow focus would lose viewers? That concern seems unfounded. The series is captivating—the measured exchanges between the therapist and his patient are constantly on the verge of terrible actions and outbursts. That's the precarious situation both the main character and the audience find themselves in. Ultimately, it's fresh, absorbing, refined, and completely gripping.
