Synopsis

As he journeyed across the country on the war bonds tour, Pavuvu, Sledge, of the 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, briefly found himself reunited with Phillips. Leckie rejoined his company, and then Sledge experienced his first taste of combat. Landing on the intricately defended coral island of Peleliu, he, Leckie, and the rest of the 1st Marine Division encountered fierce Japanese resistance.
