There are things to appreciate: it occasionally has clever moments, incorporates detective and mystery aspects, and boasts a visually appealing animation style. The characters also undergo development throughout the story. However, there are drawbacks. Nearly every male character comes across as malicious, dim-witted, unmotivated, or struggling with emotional issues. Certain plot points don't quite add up, and the inclusion of LGBT themes feels somewhat artificial at times. The nods to other shows and cultural touchstones—like Harry Potter—are a mixed bag. It brings to mind their earlier collaboration, Gravity Falls, which also featured Ms. Hirsch and Terrace; even with its imperfections, it now appears that project was less influenced by Disney's corporate agenda. Similarities in the storyline can be observed between The Owl House and The Gravity Falls, though I won’t elaborate on those specifics here.
