A shadow of exclusion settled over Michael after learning of Ryan’s recent wilderness retreat – a gathering that included several branch managers and even Toby, yet omitted his name from the guest list. Seeking a similar reconnection with the natural world, Michael tentatively asked Jim if he might consider a camping trip together.
