Synopsis

Mai Ling, the Cambodian girl Fran and Val took under their wing in high school for a mere seventeen cents a day, is planning a visit to New York. Sylvia harbors a dislike for her, a source of contention that ultimately fractured the once inseparable bond between Fran and Val. Sylvia fears Mai Ling will now interfere in Fran’s relationship with Mr. Sheffield; however, Fran discovers that Mai Ling’s engagement to Brighton was a calculated move to secure a green card.
