Synopsis

Dodgers manager Leo Durocher was searching for a player who could bring serious power to his lineup. When a scorching line drive from Herman clocked him squarely on the head – reportedly from seven blocks away – Durocher thought he’d found exactly what he needed. He sought out Herman and invited him to try out. After witnessing firsthand the sheer force of Herman's hitting, Durocher remarked wryly, “I’m not sure whether I should sign him for the Dodgers or send him overseas.”
