The narrative follows several interwoven stories. Doctors Lim, Murphy, and Wolke navigate the complexities arising from a teenage "biohacker" whose experimental self-modifications begin to jeopardize his well-being. Meanwhile, doctors Morgan, Park, Jordan, and Glassman grapple with a young woman's desire for a controversial surgical procedure intended to alleviate both her depression and chronic pain. Separately, Dr. Reznick contemplates deepening her relationship with Dr. Park.
