The Falcon and The Winter Soldier doesn’t have the same energy or quick pace as the previous series; it's a more deliberate and realistic show, but it does succeed in allowing viewers to connect with Sam and Bucky. It's centered on the characters, which results in strong conversations and excellent acting from the main actors, although some of the supporting players manage to stand out at times, particularly Daniel Brühl. The storyline about who will take over as Captain America, and the discussions surrounding a Black Captain America are easily the most interesting and thoroughly developed parts of the show. I also found it worthwhile watching Sam navigate problems with his family and Bucky attempt to make things right for past actions. However, the Flag Smashers under Morgenthau don’t quite come across as anything more than frustrating antagonists who were simply trying to be understood, and Sharon Carter feels like she was included just to fulfill a promotional purpose. Kari Skogland attempts to maintain a consistent level of quality throughout each episode, but ultimately has trouble with how quickly things move and balancing the different plot threads. Despite this, she manages to leave viewers feeling more invested in the central characters. Rating: B-
