It’s probably best to start by reading the novels, then experience the series afterward. The show faced numerous problems behind the scenes—it was initially canceled by SyFy, then rescued by Amazon, and later had to make changes due to an actor’s legal issues. Ultimately, the final season felt incomplete because of budget limitations. Despite these difficulties, the books are fantastic: a sprawling science fiction epic that focuses on political maneuvering, mysteries, and the familiar scenario of a small crew finding themselves in situations beyond their control. Aside from the production troubles, I thought the actor portraying Holden didn't quite capture the character’s essence, and his growth felt lost without familiarity with the books. Even though the plot is hampered by the show’s problems, it remains engaging, and it’s enjoyable to try and identify the linguistic influences in the Belter language. I really hope they could have continued the story for more seasons; that's just how television often works, unfortunately.
