I’ve put together this brief assessment from recollection, as a reaction against the over-the-top praise—often gushing about seeing competent animation—that seems to be common on this site. The initial three seasons were enjoyable. They didn't quite reach the standard set by Arcane season 1, but they were of sufficient quality to warrant my top rating and become a personal favorite. I’m struggling to pinpoint exactly why, but season 4 was so disappointing that it completely extinguished my enthusiasm. I was so out of touch with what was happening that I didn't even realize season 5 had come out until just now. I intend to watch season 5 eventually and will revise this review accordingly. For the time being, the high rating stands. The Dragon Prince is similar to RWBY in that it began promisingly but then faltered so severely that I no longer feel motivated to follow along. Apparently, a sixth season is in development, which doesn't elicit any particular feeling from me—either positive or negative. The series exists, and so do I.
