I have to admit, I was initially drawn to it because of Peter Capaldi, but what I discovered exceeded my expectations; it’s genuinely one of the best television programs this year and a standout in its category. “The Devil’s Hour” is an atmospheric and skillfully directed series that proves to be quite entertaining. The show's concept isn't entirely new, but the way it's handled feels inventive and captivating, allowing it to distinguish itself from other shows. The horror elements aren't softened either, which I appreciated. It offers a unique viewing experience. The acting is consistently good throughout, although Benjamin Chivers as Isaac makes a particularly strong impression. Capaldi and Jessica Raine also give noteworthy performances. Beyond the solid acting and direction, the cinematography is exceptionally well done, enhancing the overall impact. The pacing does occasionally feel slow, which can make it difficult to stay engaged at times. I’m looking forward to seeing if they address this in a potential second season. Despite that, the core mystery keeps you hooked from one episode to the next, and the ending leaves things open for the future with considerable potential.
