It’s surprising to realize how much the show seems to misunderstand the morals of the upper classes during the period it depicts. Of course, that's because they weren't portrayed accurately. Ignoring the clear historical inaccuracies, does this even work as a comedy? Not particularly well. The attempts at humor feel contrived, resulting in very little genuine amusement and just some crude jokes thrown in for good measure. Is there anything positive to say? It is a Netflix production, so the visuals, costumes, and overall quality of the presentation are quite impressive—but that's pretty much all I’ve noticed. Ultimately, it appears appealing at first glance, but if you look closer, it doesn’t hold up well and is largely not humorous.
