A Discworld story: stretching beyond what you might expect! This is a two-part television series based on a fantasy novel sharing the same title. Those familiar with 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'Harry Potter' movies may not find it particularly thrilling, but it isn’t poorly made; it reaches a reasonable standard for TV production. The visuals are passable, though the acting and settings were well done. The plot was adequate, although largely predictable. It draws inspiration from medieval ideas about how people once understood the earth and the cosmos. In this world, which is depicted as flat and round, various kingdoms on different continents stand ready to uncover new things. The story follows a tourist and an expelled wizard who join forces for sightseeing but unexpectedly find themselves in a lengthy adventure filled with perils that they must overcome to reach its conclusion. The characters are well-developed, and the creative concepts are impressive. It could be perfect entertainment for children, but it doesn’t quite resonate as much with adults. I'm not questioning Terry Pratchett's original work, just this adaptation. A multi-season television run would be welcome, provided the special effects aren’t skimped on. While 'Game of Thrones' achieved a grand scale, why couldn't this one? I hope to see that happen sometime soon. 6½/10
