The initial episodes of The Boys showed promise, but any possibility it might have had as enjoyable viewing with meaningful social observations has been undermined by those pushing an agenda. The series is saturated with progressive politics; I’d wager that if there's a politically charged viewpoint to be presented, it will likely appear here. What I found particularly objectionable in the current season (4) was the way people who challenge conventional wisdom are portrayed. Apparently, questioning the accepted story makes you unsophisticated, naive, simple-minded, and insignificant—someone who blindly follows trends. It’s telling that, ironically, mainstream sources have never been more distrusted. It's no surprise they’ve begun inserting their views into entertainment in a rather obvious way, seemingly trying to get people back on board with the accepted narrative. There was considerable potential here squandered. The acting is good, and there were some strong concepts, but they are all hidden under heavy layers of conventional thinking. It's ironic since this feels like the opposite of the rebellious individualism supposedly present in the series’ main characters. Basically, when a fake form of rebellion replaces genuine opposition, that’s a problem. This series began promisingly, but now it isn’t challenging anything; it is simply another attempt to promote mainstream progressive conformity. The fact they feel compelled to push this so aggressively suggests how many people are actually embracing it.
