I’m glad Simon Pegg is part of this, since Hugh was modeled after him, and I honestly can’t imagine the series without his presence. While it doesn’t quite reach Garth Ennis' usual level—it lacks some of that characteristic vulgarity, offensiveness, and humor that defined The Boys in its original comic form—it gets surprisingly close, which is a welcome change considering the direction many comics and their film adaptations have taken. Even so, it remains crude, shocking, violent, and amusing, even if it could have pushed those boundaries further. The fact that there are only 8 episodes suggests they’re not attempting to stretch out the narrative unnecessarily, which is also a positive aspect. It feels like a remedy for contemporary comics, reminiscent of a late-1990s British wave of influence.
