The heroes become disengaged from saving the world, or exploit their position, finding themselves compelled to compromise their values and prioritize corporate agendas. Their actions are dictated by the presence of cameras documenting every move, maintaining a facade of civic responsibility while harboring selfish motives and mistreating their admirers. It’s unsettling to consider that those in positions of authority act as arbiters of justice, determining which offenses are financially beneficial, and how exorbitant sums are paid for the temporary loan of superheroes to other cities for protection. The Boys' ability to critique these figures is a major strength; while satire aimed at such characters isn’t entirely original, blending it with themes of corporate greed and unchecked capitalism creates something distinct.
