This animation, **That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime** (_Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken_), had an alright start, similar to what another reviewer mentioned. The fact that it's an anime and included good comedy at the right moments definitely earned it some points with me. However, my excitement quickly faded. The fan service is passable, but it isn’t enough to keep the show interesting or carry it for very long. As the series progresses through its episodes, this fan service starts making it feel like the creators are unsure what rating category the show belongs in. I don't appreciate that confusion; I also dislike being teased like that. Another thing bothering me about this series concerns the main character’s identity. It’s another reason why my view of this show has been complicated. Here in Western society, comic books and animations are increasingly influenced by liberal ideals: same-sex relationships, females taking on male roles – not just positions, but actual cultural male roles, androgynous characters, and characters being declared as “non-binary” and other similar things. All of this is damaging to good storytelling. I’m finding myself drifting away from the series because the writers have put the character in such a liberal position, especially considering his state after he died as a fully grown human male. (Basically, they forced the idea that the character is “non-binary” into the story because slimes can be anything.) How do I know this? It's pretty obvious. The main character began as a fully grown adult male, and (after his death due to plot armor) the writers transformed him into a loli character—a young girl with an adult’s mind. A character who they later have him take the form of a young female ally who had died previously. And you're left wondering, "Why would a grown man want to change himself into someone who looks like a 14-year-old girl when he KNOWS he can become a fully grown adult male?" As Critical Drinker from YouTube would say, "...DON’T KNOW!!" With that realization, and the lackluster fan service, I quickly lost interest as a male viewer. A story needs to be logical, and this one has gone off track considerably. However, I will admit it *is* entertaining. So whether this series is worth watching or not depends on what you're hoping for. - Peace! -
