After finishing the first season, I looked into the origins of this show and was surprised to discover it wasn’t adapted from a children's story; it’s actually based on an adult novel. If you enjoy "From" but find it too intellectual, this could appeal to you, though honestly, it's quite bad—relying heavily on familiar tropes. The cast lacks any real spark, making the whole thing feel unnecessary. Chaske Spencer, who I recall from a minor role in “Banshee,” is the most engaging performer. It seems like Peacock is just a slightly better version of Hallmark, where older actors go to have unremarkable careers—a more intriguing idea than this series itself. This science fiction feels like it acknowledges the term "science" but doesn't really understand what it represents. The writing and dialogue are poor, especially when delivered by Speedman or Strahovski. The teenage daughter is acceptable, and I’m hoping the young boy meets a violent end; grandma appearing on screen is about as exciting as it gets. Each episode runs roughly thirty minutes but drags on interminably. There's a lot of wasted time focused on Speedman’s character having an affair with a forgettable person—perhaps included because those involved were conscious of the lack of substance in the script or source material? It was a complete waste of my time and energy.
